Outside (144 words) – written 3/11/16

There was nothing past the bubble. Even if you pressed your nose against it, the glare was too strong to see more than a few inches and, even then, there was only darkness beyond.

It had always been this way in Ellion. Nothing ever changed past the clear smooth curve – it was always dark, always foreboding.

Yhuen was only 12, but understood that the grownups were frightened of what lay beyond, but he never felt the same anxiety when he looked into it. He only felt wonder, curiosity. Daily, he stood at the brink, pressed to the material that felt like glass, but wasn’t. He was sure that things moved, just beyond the limit of his vision, but there was never enough for him to prove it.

He would have to go out to do that, but how? And what would he find there?
