Now that I’m actively sending Over the Edge to agents, I’m no longer editing it. After three beta readers going over it with and constant editing since November, I think it deserves some rest.
This means that I can turn my attention to the Science Fiction novel that’s been languishing in my Google Drive. To be perfectly clear, I’ve already turned my attention to it. Last week, I got a decent amount of writing done. It wasn’t as much as I would have liked, but one and a half chapters made it out of my brain – enough to finish the first full act of my book and get me to the point where the real fun begins.
Writing science fiction is one of my favorite things to do. If you’ve taken a look at any of my flash fiction, you can tell that immediately. I grew up watching science fiction movies and reading science fiction books. Who I am and what I like is defined by those stories.
My first foray into writing was an attempted trio of science fiction novels. I never finished the trilogy – I stopped because the story just wasn’t there and massive rewrites were required – but that single endeavor catapulted me to where I am today. Were it not for those 240k words, I wouldn’t be here, writing this blog.
Infinity’s Heir is my newest work of science fiction and I already think it’s much better than my first try. The Age of Eshol will always be my first – my passion project – and I plan to revisit it when I feel like tearing those pages asunder. I’m not ready to do that yet. Instead, I’ve spent a good amount of time developing this new story and outlining it (I spent a whole week on that step). It took me some time, but Infinity’s Heir coherent and should take my characters on an epic story arc across the stars. I’m excited about where they are going and where they’ll end up.
Chapter 7 is the next step in the process and I haven’t had time to really sit down and start working on it. I’m excited about taking that next step – putting more of my new world to paper, but I’m also apprehensive about it. This next chapter is a crucial one in continuing the story and comes after a twenty year time skip.
I have to get it right.
Either way, I’m excited about where the story is going and can’t wait to see the characters in those places, doing the things I have planned for them. Nothing else is as exciting as that. Nothing else is as exhilarating.
Here’s hoping they get there soon!
