In a Name (150 words) – written 4/11/2016
“Why that name?”
Kheif smiled. “It’s poetic, don’t you think?”
“Poetic?”
“Oh, yes.” The smile widened. “”The word Karma specifically refers to destiny as a result of some cause. I find it fitting that someone – anyone – who breaks the law in this quadrant would most likely receive a visit from me. And my ship.”
I couldn’t help but smile back. This man, though severe in his demeanor and fierce in his belief, had a charm that was undeniable. “Has anyone else made that connection?”
The smile wavered for just a moment, but did not fade. “Alas, only I. And those I have told. None others this far from Earth remember such things.”
“Oh, no?”
“No.” The single shake of his head almost seemed like a nervous tick. “Religion has no place this far from civilized space.”
“Yet you make sure Karma is remembered.”
His smile widened to a grin. “Poetic.”
