Surviving the storm

My last update was on June 23rd.  A lot has happened since then.

Infinity’s Heir is the main reason I haven’t posted an update in so long, but Missing Parts played a role, as well.

Let me explain.

I posted back in May that Infinity’s Heir was done. I immediately sent the MS off to beta readers. I started getting feedback in June and started the arduous task of editing. Since the initial beta review, I’ve gone through three exhaustive edits. These edits dealt with spelling, grammar, and culminated in the removal of over 20K words from the work. It originally stood at 93K words, but now rests at a humble 68K.

But I’m happy.

Infinity’s Heir is exactly where I want it to be. Even though the task of getting is there has been exceedingly difficult, I feel like it wound up in a good place. Now, the final MS is with a beta reader. I hope to get positive feedback from this final iteration of the work. If I do, it will be ready to go out to agents. And I’m excited to see what they’ll think.

I also mentioned work on Missing Parts.

Around the time Infinity’s Heir was finished, I had a concept for a Cyberpunk Thriller novel. The outline was already done, so while Infinity’s Heir was with beta readers, I focused on this work. Between May and June, I managed to finish 13 chapters of the MS, only to spend a massive amount of time revising the outline and getting rid of 4 chapters.

The changes, however, made the work stronger and I’m happy with where it was headed before I moved back to Infinity’s Heir for extensive edits. Moving forward, Missing Parts will be the next MS I finish.

On a sadder note, I’ve made the decision to retire Over the Edge.

While I’m happy with the final MS, agents didn’t seem to be as excited about it. I queried the novel for a while and, while there were a few agents who requested partials or fulls, it didn’t seem to gain enough traction to make it past that stage of the game.

I’m not really sure what I’ll do with the MS in the future. For now, it’s sitting on my Google Drive, waiting for me to make a decision. I may decide to self publish it in the future, or try and serialize the chapters. I’m not really sure. Until then, I’m going to shift my attention to Infinity’s Heir. It is a stronger work (I think) and should do better with agents (I hope).

I’m taking a short break from writing at the moment (though, I’m not sure how short). This should give me a bit more time to dedicate to my blog. I need to spend more time here and get it back up to snuff. Expect more articles, page changes, more flash fiction, and perhaps some sample chapters.

As always, if there’s anything that you want to see, ping me and I’ll put something together.
