I’m Back, Baby!

It’s cosmic understatement to say 2020 was an interesting year. And even moreso to admit I’ve been delinquent in updating my blog. At least I’ve stayed active on Twitter, which counts for something … right? Right?!

Every year, I make a half-hearted attempt to reinvigorate my blog and only manage about a month or two of content before falling off the wagon. It’s a vicious cycle. Behind the scenes, however, I’ve been busy.

In 2020, I rewrote Aiko’s Dive from scratch and started on a complete rewrite of Missing Parts that I finished earlier this year (sadly, it still needs tons of work). After that, I went on a deep dive of Intelligence – I book I initially wrote in 2019 – to whip it into querying shape. And I’m just starting to wade back into the trenches while I outline a YA fantasy novel.

So … yeah … time management has been a nightmare this year. But why add more irons to the fire now?

To be brutally honest, it’s because I’m querying and want content for any agent that pops by (sorry, not sorry :P). But also, it’s about time I dust off the laziness that COVID afforded me. I let a lot of things slip in 2020, did a lot of procrastinating (via twitch streaming), and rode that wave deep into this year. It’s well past time to restart my engines and putter back out into the sea of progress (you can’t tell me you didn’t miss the nautical metaphors while I was gone).

Writing in a vacuum was super easy, and I leaned into the solitary indulgence. But the payoff was two books of wildly different quality and a pull back from the communities that have given me so much support during my writing journey. Sure, I spent some time on Twitter, but didn’t interact as much – or in as many ways – as I would have liked. And I missed the everyone who takes the time to read my blog when I do update it.

All that said, I’m going to finally take my wife’s advice and focus more time on my blog. I don’t have a solid idea of what that looks like yet, but I think it’s safe to start by saying “I’m going to make regular updates”. Only, this time, I’m going to stick with it.

Probably …

Until next time!
