So, I had this whole draft planned about something I wanted to talk about, but this is actually more important, I think.

Lately, I’ve been having trouble lending energy to the writing cause – query Intelligence has been a dubious proposition (the query trenches are scary, y’know?) and work on my YA Fantasy outline has remained at a crawl. I guess I’ve just been feeling … overwhelmed.

It’s a rut I’m familiar with. Hits every time I “finish” a novel and ponder moving on to the next.

Usually, I spend the time between languishing in television, music (composing), or video games. Tonight, it was video games. Or it was supposed to be, until the game I was playing decided to corrupt my save and boot me to the desktop. Three times.

But … the funniest thing happened just before that.

I was talking to a buddy via discord and said told him I was trying to find the energy to stand up from my computer. I wanted to write – or query – but the energy just wasn’t there to get me going. Then, disaster struck and I was suddenly faced with starting the game again (and playing to recoup about 3 hours of lost progress) or turning my attention to something else.

I was obviously pissed, but the desire to play games was extinguished. So, I turned to querying for Intelligence.

As much as I want to dive, headlong, into writing my YA fantasy novel, it would be a disservice to Intelligence and all the time I spent whipping it (and all the query materials) into shape. The book is – in my opinion – some of my best work, and I’d love others to have the opportunity to see it.

Over the next few months, I plan on slowly outlining the YA fantasy and fleshing out its world, while sending Intelligence to every agent willing to look at YA Sci-fi. Hopefully, it’ll find a home. And if not … Well … Have I mentioned I’ve been considering self-publishing this one?

But that’s a blog post for another time … XD
