I had a blast reading through all of the mentor blogs ahead of submitting to Pitch Wars this year, so I figured I’d do one of my own for the mentors I subbed to (in case they decide to drop by my barren desert of a blog). So, here goes nothing!
Who am I?
My name is Chase, and I’ve been writing seriously since 2013. I started as an outlet during a difficult time in my life, but quickly found out I loved writing as more than just a stress relief exercise. I haven’t looked back, since.
In the last 8 years, I’ve written about 8 novels. Each has been an exercise in patience and perseverance, but I feel like I’m getting closer to perfection (Haha!) with each manuscript. I love science fiction and robust characters, so that’s what I focus on – for better or worse.
Outside of writing, I love playing video games, writing music (mostly 80s synthwave), watching TV shows with my wife (mostly reality tv, but we enjoy the occasional drama), and spoiling our pets (two cats and a dog).
What can mentors expect from me?
My goal as a writer is to make my manuscripts the very best they can be. That means tearing them down, chewing them up, and spitting them out, hopefully better on the other side. That said, I’m not shy about having the hard discussions about what changes need to be made. And I won’t run away from deep cuts or significant revisions (I’ve rewritten more than one of my novels).
What would I like out of a mentor?
I know I can improve, but sometimes it takes fresh eyes and a different perspective to identify exactly how. I’d like to work with someone who can help me realize where I’ve been falling short. But I’d also like to work with someone who can help nurture the areas of my writing that are already strong. I think all of the PW mentors are capable of this, but I’d love to do that with someone who focuses on the sci-fi genre.
Why should you pick me?
I’m a hard worker, dedicated, and never give up. I’m passionate about writing and working with other writers to make things shine. And I never take things too seriously. What’s writing without a bit of fun thrown in the mix?
Final Words
All of the PW mentors have a huge task ahead of them, and I’m thankful that they’ve decided to spend their time giving back to the community. At the very least, I hope this post gives a little insight into me as a writer, and can help break up the enormity of the task at hand.
Thank you all!
