Last week, I started writing a new manuscript. It’s based off of a Flash Fiction story I wrote called “The Octavius Job” (which you can read here).
The manuscript is going to be a prequel to that story and I’m very excited about it. This will be my first foray into YA writing and I’m very interested to see how it goes (So far, feedback on the first few chapters has been solid and I hope to maintain that quality/momentum over the next few months).
Since I’m still in the early stages of the work, it’s writing itself right now. An outline hasn’t formed yet and I haven’t come to a point where I feel like I need one. Typically, that happens around the 4th or 5th chapter of the novel, so I expect that process to start soon. If it doesn’t, I’ll have to make do with developing the story as I go until it does.
As it is, Aiko (the MC) is a free spirit and it doesn’t surprise me that she refuses to fall into a pattern. But that’s how writing goes sometimes – the characters drive the writer instead of the other way around…
Stay tuned on this one. I plan to post regular updates on my status and snippets of the work as I go. You won’t want to miss it!
